I realized today that I haven’t worked on my Japanese grammar for several months. I have done a few exercises here and there. And I use it occasionally with friends.
Last week I decided to start again, from scratch. I reset my Kanji deck on Anki (a free flash card web/software/app, I am using Nihongoshark’s Kanji deck), And I started reviewing all the vocabulary for the first half of Genki I on Memrise, and I also added a course called JLPT N5 Vocabulary & Kanji. I have been able to at least review everything every day. It doesn’t take very long, and if I have some extra time that day I’ve been learning 20 new Kanjis and between 15-20 new words per day.
I have been tracking my progress with an app called Raise the bar, I really like the visual of how far I have gotten with the flashcards.
I’m very excited, because I just enrolled in an online course for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while, and I thought there’s no time like the present. Besides if I never enroll, I can never start teaching.

I don’t know about you, but I think that telling time in Japanese is a little tricky. It not that it’s hard exactly. and it’s fine with whole and half hours. But when it comes to the minutes I never seem to remember if it’s supposed to be ふん or ぷん. It’s easy enough when you write because you can just write the Kanji for minutes 分. I probably just need some more practice.
I figured I’d share a little game/test I was able to find online.

Since I am studying by myself I don’t really need a study guide. But I am now halfway through my textbook Genki I An Integrated Course In Elementary Japanese, and I figured that now would be a good time to go back and review what I have learned so far.
I discovered that the first two chapters I can remember with no problem (maybe except for some of the numbers). But then I have started to forget some of the grammar. So I sat down and started to put together a study guide. Just as I would do if I was studying for a test.
I did look online, trying to find a test based on the Genki book. But I couldn’t really find anything good. Maybe I’ll have to make one myself. But it’s not quite the same if you’ve made it yourself. Oh well, we’ll see what I decide to do.
